Tesla Semi: Design of the battery packs of the electric semitrailer leaked

Tesla has recently been delivering its semi-truck, and the first customers like PepsiCo can take delivery of the new electric truck after years of delay.

The public and experts are still faced with question marks, but an important one can now be answered.

Perhaps the biggest question concerned the battery of Tesla's first semi-trailer truck because until now the carmaker has kept quite a secret about the vehicle's power supply.

There was only some unconfirmed or non-verifiable information from Tesla boss Elon Musk because he wrote in a tweet that a 36.7-ton Tesla Semi (fully loaded) had traveled 800 kilometers.

You can certainly believe this information, but so far important specifications have been missing, above all about capacity and weight.

Both are particularly important in practice because - in the case of the weight - this results in the maximum load, which is a maximum of 82,000 pounds (equivalent to around 37.2 tons).

The battery has never been seen in the prototypes and now a leaker called Green the Only has posted specific information about the Tesla Semi on Twitter.

There are also pictures showing the exact location of the battery and other details.

1 MWh pack under the cab

According to this information, the Tesla Semi has a 1 MWh battery pack, which according to Electrek means an effective capacity of 900 kWh.

The images also confirm that the batteries are positioned under the driver's cab. This is obvious, as it keeps the vehicle's center of gravity low, but has not yet been officially confirmed.

However, the pack design is different or new for Tesla:Because it looks like there are nine battery modules, the three in the middle seem to be significantly larger than the ones on the side.

According to Electrek, the semi-versions are also much taller than all other Tesla battery packs. However, it is still not clear which cell is used.

Previously it had been assumed that Tesla would use its own 4680 units, but Elon Musk has indicated that this is not necessarily the case.
