Chinese Moore Threads MTT S80 GPU can run Crysis

A graphics card launched a few months ago, which has the particularity of being the first PCIe Gen 5 consumer reference.

The GPU, engraved in 7 nm, has 4096 cores and 16 GB of RAM. However, its performance is hampered by a deficient software ecosystem.

A few months ago, the Chinese company Moore Threads launched its MTT S80 graphics card, the first PCIe Gen 5 compatible consumer card.

This displays theoretical FP32 performance superior to the GeForce RTX 3060.

A first test showed that the GPU indeed had potential, but that it remained weighed down by deficient software support.

The so-called Löschzwerg was able to get his hands on this reference, reserved for the Chinese market.

This MTT S80 is based on the MUSA architecture.

The GPU has 4096 cores and 16 GB of GDDR6. Officially, the graphics card supports DirectX9 and DirectX 11 but does not support all features (feature level 11_1 for DirectX 11).

Can it Run Crysis?

Löschzwerg compared the performance of the MTT S80 to that of the Intel Arc A770 in 3D Mark03 and 3D Mark06; not the most sophisticated benchmarks of 2023, but the only ones the MTT S80 can handle decently.

As you can see from the results above, Moore Threads' card is largely beaten by Intel's.

extinguishing dwarf also did the famous Can It Run Crysis?

The answer is yes, but under DirectX 9 only. Unfortunately, the author does not specify under what conditions or the configuration used.

Finally, the previous test highlighted excessive consumption at rest, around 110 W; the problem is still present according to Löschzwerg.

At full power, the MTT S80 guzzles up to 220W.

In short, you will have understood, this graphics card remains at a fairly early stage of development.

It will take a few months of additional work for developers to offer a successful product, and certainly several generations before offering GPUs capable of withstanding those of NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel.
